Willamette National ForestThe Willamette National Forest (WNF) offers a wide variety of recreation opportunities during summer and winter months. Its central location makes it accessible to day-trippers and vacationers alike. Seven major volcanic peaks exist within the Forest's boundary, and the Cascade mountains offer virtually endless recreation opportunities such as developed campgrounds, trails, Scenic Byways, snow activities and ski resorts. Most of the trails and sites listed below are within the WNF. WNF Recreation Page and Trip Planner Map Three Sisters Wilderness There are approximately 260 miles of trail within the wilderness. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail traverses the wilderness for 40 miles. Alpine meadows, waterfalls, lava fields, glaciers, and glacial lakes are abundant. Most trails entering the wilderness begin in dense forests of Douglas-fir on the western slopes of the Cascades and ponderosa pine on the eastern slopes. The North and Middle Sisters are technical climbs over 10,000 ft. The South Sister is more accessible, with hundreds of people climbing to the 10,358 ft. peak with no special gear in the summer months. » learn more Dee Wright Observatory An excellent view of the high mountain peaks of the Cascades, from Mount Hood in the North to the Sisters and Brokentop in the South.
